Blue Corn Music
Tony Kamal was the frontman and main songwriter for the acclaimed bluegrass band “Wood & Wire”, a Grammy nominated album, back in 2018. He released his debut solo record “Back Down Home” in 2021, teaming up with legendary songwriter Bruce Robison. It reached #1 on the Alt. Country Radio chart. He is an engaging story teller and instrumentalist, playing both guitar and clawhammer banjo. Co-produced by Kamel and Robison “We’re All Gonna Live” is Kamel’s third studio recording on Blue Corn Music.
The band on “We’re All Gonna Live” includes Kamel, all lead vocals, guitar, clawhammer banjo, harmonica, triangle, and tambourine; Kym Warner, mandolin, and baritone harmony; Noah Jeffries, fiddle, acoustic guitar and baritone harmony; Cameron Owens, upright bass and tenor harmony; and Josh Blue, drums and percussion.
On “Makin’ It Work” with great banjo by Kamel, and fiddle from Jeffries; Kamel sings “hey, I got the way, you got the means…don’t look now the world’s on fire…I’m gonna die, we’re all gonna die, makin’ it work till your deep in the dirt”. Kamel’s clawhammer style often sounds like Scruggs picking.
“Damn Good Ride” is a slow ballad “goodbye my darling, goodbye my old friend, I don’t mean to be the sentimental kind…it’s been a damn good ride”. “Sue”, “now Sue, she goes around singing all day…she sings about what Jesus would say…she rockin’ that cradle…she drinkin that wine, we are going to die, but she singin about livin, good Cajun cooking, and a woman named Sue”.
“Some Old Day”, oh well, sweet darlin…little girl with bouncing curls, some old day, you gonna up and die…”. “Little Bitty Town”, the first cover, written by Danny Barnes…”I live in a one-horse town, I live in a little bitty town, it seems to calm me down, all the cops just ride around…I can’t find a reason for leavin…I live in a litty bitty town”.
On “All Around This World” one can really hear Kamel’s clawhammer style…you can really feel the emotion as he chimes “don’t let your deal go down, I’ve been all around this world”. “A Father And A Daughter” is a gospel styled song sung accapella, with tenor and baritone harmony “they don’t know down in Texas…strut down to the old hall…through the wind and rain, ice and snow…I keep on walkin’ with you, hey darlin’ hand and hand, we’ll go through the wind and rain. “Old Dangerfield” is an instrumental from Bill Monroe with some great fiddle from Jeffries.
“Lying Through My Teeth” features Kamel on acoustic guitar as he chants “I can’t tell you the truth…I’m telling lies…ain’t no mind the shape I’m in …I can tell you I’m getting right, but I’d be lying through my teeth” On the closer, the title track, “We’re All Gonna Live” again with some exceptional clawhammer banjo Kamel sings “I’d be lost, walkin’ home, he won’t be goin’ back until he got a ride…I’d cut off my right hand if anybody could cut a redfish as good as I can, we’re all gonna’ live, we’re all gonna live”.
On “We’re All Gonna Live” Tony Kamel gives us thirty-five minutes of extraordinary bluegrass music. Besides being on the Alt. Country Radio Chart, Kamel was on the Americana Charts for several weeks.
