The Jeff Jensen Band – Darwin’s Blues Club, Sandy Springs, 3/24
The Jeff Jensen Band came to the new location of Darwin’s for the second time Saturday night. They had played the former location a number of times, and I believe my husband and I have seen them every time. So seeing Jeff Jensen, Bill Ruffino, and David “Alibaminal” Green combined the thrill of seeing my favorite group and the joy of reuniting with old friends.
From the time they hit the stage, Jeff was moving so fast he was almost a blur, making sounds on the guitar that you would not think a guitar could make and other sounds that you just don’t expect to come out of it so well. Bill was dancing for joy. I tried to keep one eye on each of them, which is not easy. I am glad David was behind that set because ‘ didn’t have any more eyes.
There is never a question that this is Jeff’s band. He is the singer, the mesmerizing guitarist, even the guy with the megaphone during “Heart Attack and Vine.” At some point the hair came loose and added to the show, whipping around wildly as Jeff moves. It was all a blur of sound and motion but I believe we heard, besides “Heart Arrack and Vine,” “Can’t Believe We’re Through,” Brunette Woman,” and “Make It Through.” That’s not all. They packed a lot into the set we saw.
I got to talk to Jeff and Bill and David both before the show and during the break before we left. They are the same warm, friendly people they have always been., as well as incredible musicians that any music lover will be happy to see, time and time again.
The band has an album coming out very soon, “Wisdom and Decay.” You can pre-order it now. Follow them on Facebook to know when you can see them in your town!
