Today I would like to introduce to the new album of The Golden Mantis
The Band:
The Golden Mantis are Silvia Subosco and Roger Münzenmayer from Mannheim in Germany.
As early as the mid-80s, both played in the band The Valentines, one of the most innovative local bands of the time. After the group broke up, neither of them gave up the music, Silvia continued to compose her songs and Roger took part in many regional band projects.
In 2019 they got together to continue as The Golden Mantis and that was one of the best decisions ever. Their debut album of the same name was released in April 2020 and the German-language album “Amerika” was released in September 2020.
Both achieved countless streams on the Internet and were played by radio stations around the world.
Now their new album “Yesterdays News” has been released and for me the success is inevitable.
The album:
Opens with “All The Beauty”, a song that takes you straight away, especially for people who have never heard of this band before. A melody that is perfectly arranged around Silvia’s vocals, calm and yet captivating, the unity that both form can literally be grasped with hands.
And the same goes on with “Loving the wolf”, calm and yet not a boring ballad but a sound and lyrics that not only invite you to listen but also make it impossible to listen away.
“I am tired to sing that song”, that’s how starts “Me against the Universe”, again you can’t escape Silvia’s voice and Roger’s brilliant way of playing does the rest.
“Say farewell”, melancholy, a bit gloomy and while listening I had the feeling of sitting in a nightclub, having a glass in front of me and thinking about life. And that’s what the songs are all about, you can imagine situations where you don’t just listen dumb and let the melody pass you by without thinking about it.
“The Creeper” surprises with an unusually happy introduction, a catchy melody, positive and clear both in the vocals and in the sound.
“Time”, again a ballad that captivates with its unusual music and of course with Silvia’s voice.
The CD version has two additional songs, “The Fountain” and “Poor Man”, two other great pieces only available on Bandcamp
An absolutely recommendable EP by these exceptional artists that I am sure will be a huge success and that we will hopefully hear a lot more from very soon.
Everything, just not mainstream and so unusual and changeable as you seldom experience it. Singing, instruments … a single harmony and for me an artist couple where you can’t imagine one without the other.
