Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Sue Foley
Sue Foley delivers her own brand of Texas blues in this stunning set, recorded live at the iconic Continental Club in Austin, Texas. Foley’s seasoned rhythm section responds to her every move as she sways, rocks, and digs in deep with equal parts ease and intensity. This absolutely killer set has all the power and energy of a great live performance, and the ecstatic crowd maintains a fever pitch.
For her first electric live album, Foley plays eleven carefully chosen, hand-picked songs selected from her three decades of recordings, throwing in a couple surprises. She digs back to her 1992 Antone’s album Young Girl Blues for “Queen Bee,” “Me And My Chauffeur Blues”, and “Walkin’ Home”, hits her 1998 Shanachie album for “Highwayside”, and turns to her 2000 Back To The Blues album for Dylan’s “Positively 4th Street.” The vitality of this live performance breathes new life into these classics. This well-oiled band is Sue on guitar and vocals, Corey Keller on drums, and Jon Penner on bass, plus a guest appearance by renowned Austin guitarist Derek O’Brien.
Sue shares, “Live In Austin Vol. 1 was recorded with the highest quality equipment, in a legendary club, by a great producer and engineer. It was mastered in Dolby Atmos, which sounds like you are right in there with us. The night was electric, the crowd was rockin’ and the band was on fire. Finally I have an album that shows the energy of what we do live. I’m stoked to be able to bring this to our fans.”
Still in her early twenties, Sue Foley came out of Canada like a bright blue ball of fire and landed right in the middle of the Austin, Texas blues scene that was centered around Clifford Antone’s legendary nightclub. She became a vital part of the family that included blues pioneers like Albert Collins, Gatemouth Brown, Kim Wilson, the Vaughan Brothers, Angela Strehli and more. Sue’s star continued to rise as she generated a constant stream of internationally released albums that scored her critical acclaim, worldwide fans and a multitude of awards.
In 2023, Foley was awarded the Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award) in Memphis – an award she also won in 2022 and 2020. She was also recently honored with Guitarist of the Year and Blues Act of the Year at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, and Guitarist of the Year at the 2023 Maple Blues Awards. Her last album, Pinky’s Blues, took home Best Traditional Blues Album at the 2022 Blues Music Awards.
