Specky Cult Jumping on our own bandwagon
Jumping on our own bandwagon
Long awaited and finally here! The debut album from “Specky Cult”. Specky Cult is Andy McGrevy Rob Glover and Carol Stephen. Coming from the north east of England, they bring a breath of fresh air to the music scene with ultra-cool sound and lyrics that are as endearing as they are original.
Funny, lively and with a good mood guarantee. It’s definitely worth noting that they performed with “The Stranglers” in their twenties and even more notable that they are still here! A band who tells a story, a story about themselves, their journey and about life in general.
Debut album Jumping on our own bandwagon (Songs from the play) brings 12 brilliant songs ranging from hilarious silliness (and that’s by no means a negative ) like in ”Dog ate my homework” and “Oi Oi Boy” to more thoughtful tracks like “Dead Flowers” and “Demons”.
“Of mine” is just like “Doris Day” , one of the songs that conveys a lot of positivity to us, as the whole band radiates an almost tangible optimism.
“Enjoy yourself it’s later than you thing” Lyrics from “Doris Day”, one of my favorites from the album and a motto we could all stick to! With “Phoney Tony 2022” and “Cover” Specky Cult have succeeded in two real footstompers and this shows that they are not only committed to one direction but very complex.
The whole thing is crowned by the sound of the band, acoustic punk and the timbre of the voices so clear that it is simply a pleasure to listen to them. One song is actually enough to get captivated on their “musical” hook, but I highly recommend listening to the whole album. A more than successful debut and hopefully not the last!
