Here I Come
Tennessee Slaw Music
Macon Georgia native Scott Colson a.k.a. Slaw comes from the birthplace of Southern Rock. This debut album is produced, engineered, mixed and mastered in Nashville by Shawn Byrne. All songs are written by Slaw who grew up listening to classic R n’ B and that is reflected in his fine vocal performances, as Slaw combines the smokiness of Otis Redding with the country twang of Darius Rucker.
The opening title track is a defiant minor-chord bluesy declaration that anything is possible as long as you reach out to get it. The song displays Slaw’s own experiences and an unaccustomed vulnerability, “I need to see there is a lighthouse for me until I come around”.
“Heavy Load” possesses a Led Zeppelin ‘Stairway to Heaven’ type sound. On “Baby Don’t Cry” Slaw sings “I see those teardrops in the rain”. “Don’t Go Down That Road” features a beautiful vocal as Slaw chimes “pulled into this dusty old watering hole…I thought I knew everything but now I know don’t go down that road”.
“When It’s Done” is about a man who discovers he’s traded his soul for the health of his sick son. “Trouble In Mind” is not the traditional song but another Slaw original. My favorite “If I Hadn’t Found You” is a duet with Kayley Hill, his soulmate who became his wife, Slaw states”she came along, inspired me, and supported me in all I do, especially in my music”.
On “Lay It All Down” Slaw chants “look around and find another way…call on me brother and I’ll be there for you, just lay it down and walk away”. “Best of Me” includes harmony vocalists and a Viola as Slaw sings “I hope you only see me at my best”. “Can You Hear Me Call” is another duet with Kayley “I can hear you, I love you, I hear you call my name”. The closer “Hang My Head & Cry” was written during the covid pandemic when we were told what we couldn’t do “the songs about realizing…you can always get back up and start again”.
Slaw states “when people really release their soul into the music…you get chills. Slaw’s songwriting captures the pain and pleasure of human life. Chill out with Slaw.
