Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Seela!
Born to exhausted Indian immigrants on a mild, summer eve, Seela had an average childhood battling the forces of evil with her superhuman strength. On quality meals of Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, The Muppets, David Bowie, & Julia Child, she flourished in nerdiness, topping off at 5’3″. As a young, wandering adult, Seela met her lifelong “people” in Austin’s close-knit music community.
Since then she has sung back-up, collaborated with and cracked wise among musical heavyweights from Austin and beyond, sharing the stage with those such as Freedy Johnston, Sean Hayes, Anthony da Costa, Shinyribs, and Matt the Electrician. Her decades of shows in the Live Music Capitol serve as master classes on performing, orchestrating, and bandleading. She is a perpetual student who uses her vast knowledge and experience to make it all look easy.
Seela’s upcoming release, “Cool”, is self-produced and her best yet. With Austin’s most exquisite players, lyrically brilliant and melodic songs, gorgeous harmonies, lush orchestration, and plenty of light on the artistry of her musicians, each of the thirteen tracks are their own world and beautifully pull together in orbit. To celebrate the album, Seela home-made animated lyric videos which will be played in track order for a gigless release party.
Seela is also a painter, illustrator, graphic designer, and has a small, bread-baking business. In her free time she likes to invent cocktails and watch tv on the couch with her dreamy, drummer husband Jon Greene and their magical dog, Liza Minnelli.
