Scars
My recommendation for today is the Welsh singer / songwriter Scott Marsden. Scott has already made records with the bands The Lizzies and Holy Coves and has attracted the attention of various radio stations with his music, including the Bethan Elfyns BBC radio 1 show and Adam Waltons BBC Radio Wales show. He worked for more than ten years with the Welsh producer David Wrench and learned production and songwriting in the recording studio Bryn Derwen, Bethesda in the Snowdonia mountains.
And now he just released his debut solo EP “Scars” via his independent label Yr Wydffa Records. A brilliant EP and 5 great songs that you really have to hear! Starting with “Scars” and a fantastic start, powerfull from beginning to end with ingenious lyrics!
“I thought I’d healed my skin
But love is cruel
It hurts within
I thought I’d healed my skin
But love is cruel it hurts within”
Followed by the next hit “The Feeling”, as energetic as it is meaningful and that seems to run through all of Scott’s songs, it is not only sung for some reason but it conveys messages for the listener. Track number three “Grey” is an acoustic version, a little quieter than the first two songs, almost melancholy and beautifully sung and played.
And so it is with “The Rain”, also an acoustic version, a bit faster than Grey and just brilliant. Last song is the acoustic version of “Scars”, my favorite on the EP! Varied, everything from haunting till moving is available on Scott’s debut EP.
If there is something to criticize then only that five songs are not enough and hopefully we will soon hear more from this artist. But there is hope for this too, because his new studio album Druids & Bards is due to be released in 2022.
