What year did CrashDollz start?
2010
Tell us about the origin of the band name?
We were trying to put two words together that sounded cool but had an opposite contrasting effect when pushed together reflective of the dichotomous nature of punk and metal music being pushed together like we do in our music. That name just felt perfect when we got it. It rolls off the tongue well which is another important thing.
What was the recording process like for the new album?
It was awesome. We had a very troubled time recording the first album in this band so it was so nice this time to go in and be able to do everything so much more professionally and have such great results. We had an awesome time laying down the tracks and even though there were some watchful eyes over us from our label, we were allowed to see our vision through fully which was critical to us how come “Punks In Amerika” was chosen as the album title?
It first was the title of a song. Nikki and I wrote the song punks in amerika and knew we wanted that to be the album title. It’s very iconic sounding.
What’s the story behind the album art?
We wanted something that looked like an updated version of the old 70s punk fliers and Xerox machine artwork of the early days. Like, if those people were doing the same thing today using more modern graphics programs, what would that look like. Plus I really wanted me breaking my guitar on the cover of the album so that had to be in there.
Any specific CrashDollz songs that hold a special place in your heart and why?
Wow, there are many. “Getaway Man” is big for me. The first thing I ever brought to Nikki musically was a song based on the riff used in the bridge so it was cool to bring that to the surface plus the song just has a great groove that I love listening to or playing. “Stab The Ground” is special because it was the first song written for this album and the main guitar riff was so gnarly that it literally cut my fingers up so bad and in such an odd way that I developed a whole new callous on my finger from specifically that riff. “Activate” is special to me also cause I dreamt that one. I always love the “dream” songs.
Overall, what have been some of highlights of your career?
Playing in states 10-12 hours away and having a big crowd of people show up excited to hear our original songs. It’s one thing to play your town and have people come but once you get a few states away at least, you’re drawing people simply on the value of your songs and presentation. Your show. We got this reputation for having one of the best live shows around and having people flock to it when we’re hundreds and hundreds of miles from home was a big highlight for me. Also having people in general over the time this band has been releasing music come up and say that a certain song moved them or got them through something. Any time I hear anything like, that is always a highlight. I know how I feel about music that’s done that to me and it’s very special.
Favorite food?
Sweet tarts and Munchos
Favorite colour?
Pepto Bismal pink
Based on your personality what animal do you think you would be?
A bunny.
Biggest pet peeve?
The media and social media spread of non-truths as fact and speculation as truth. The news media should be held to a higher standard of factual reporting because now we have people working with different sets of “facts” depending on where they pull their news from and not listening to each other.
Favorite cartoon?
The CrashDollz cartoon (no further info yet)
Favorite holiday?
My birthday. It’s all about meeee
Any ghost encounters?
Yes. I have been followed by a very demonic presence for decades named Mara Sara. She was a witch and she currently resides in an old doll head I have. I try not to do what she tells me to do but sometimes…
Coffee or tea?
Tea for sure.
Best thing about being a Capricorn?
We’re better in bed than anyone else ?
What does CrashDollz have planned for 2016?
Launch-off shows to get the money men in place, a big tour and total world domination.
For the people that want to contact the band, where do you send them?
We still do our best to respond to Facebook messages on our band page. We have a couple administrators but singer Nikki Darling and I try and answer any fans there and you can subscribe to our newsletter by sending an email to crashdollz@rocketmail.com . That email address also reaches us.
What do you want to say to the fans?
Thanks for the amazing support that you’ve given us through the years and buckle up fuckers!!!
