Nick Schnebelen was a founding member of the band Trampled Under Foot. First formed in 2000 the band released their self-titled debut in 2006. They won the band competition at the 2008 International Blues Challenge and Schnebelen took home the Albert King Award for “Best Guitarist”. Tony Braunagel produced their 2011 album “Wrong Side of The Blues”. As a direct result the band signed with Telarc Records. In 2013 the band released “Badlands”, also produced by Braunagel, and Trampled Under Foot won the 2014 Blues Music Award for “Contemporary Blues Album of The Year”.
In June of 2016 The Nick Schnebelen Band released their own debut recording “Live At Knuckleheads Vol.1”. This follow up album “Live in Kansas City” was also recorded at Knuckleheads. The current band lineup includes Schnebelen, guitar and vocals; Cliff Moore (formerly with Michael Burks), bass; and Adam Hagerman (formerly with the band Levee Town), drums.
Schnebelen has written four new songs for this new album. “Fool” features the lyric “I have always been a fool that falls for love, you might know my name but you don’t know the pain I live”. The “Pain in My Mind…just won’t walk away” is another good song this time with some great guitar woven through it. On “this ain’t no Schoolnight” Schnebelen provides a more jazzy arrangement. “Conformity Blues” is a great guitar instrumental which also showcases the rhythm section of Moore and Hagerman.
Three more songs were co-written by the Schnebelen siblings when they were still Trampled Under Foot. “You Call That Love” is reprised from their 2008 album “May I Be Excused”. “Jonny Cheat” first appeared on “Trampled Under Foot Live at The Notodden Blues Festival” released in 2010; and “Bad Woman Blues” written by them and their producer Braunagel was included on 2011’s “Wrong Side of The Blues”. These are exciting new versions.
“Herbert Harper’s Free Press News” was written y Sidney Alexander Barnes and Robert Lee Thurston. Barnes was a staff songwriter at Motown Records and his credits include over 150 albums. This song was recorded by Muddy Waters and appears on his 1968 album “Electric Mud”. This version features some great guitar from Schnebelen and some cool drumming from Hagerman.
“Mean Town Blues” was written by Johnny Winter and appears on Winters debut recording 1969’s “Progressive Blues Experiment” on Imperial Records. It was also performed by Winter at Woodstock. Schnebelen’s version is inspired by the original.
Schnebelen can do it all. He is a strong songwriter, a great guitarist, and a seasoned vocalist. This set will leave you begging for more.
