“Musicians You Should Know”
MICHAEL PACKER – COUCH KID NEWS
Michael Packer has been here three times before. September 2013, December 2013 and July 2014. He came and talked about his new single “Yo Staten Island”, his Blues-Hop response to the death of Eric Garner.
MITCH MANN – Segment Begins At The 16:00 Mark
Mitch moved to Muscle Shoals in 1993 and has become part of the culture of that great musical city. His new album, Blackwater Creek contains seven originals and four covers. Some incredible musicians including Donna Jean Godchaux, Scott Boyer and Jimmy Hall join him. Mitch and I traced his path from growing up and finding music, the bands he has performed with over the years and his new album and desires.
BIG JIM ADAM – Segment begins At The 1:02:10 Mark
Jim has appeared at the IBC Twice, once representing the Colorado Blues Society and most recently representing his new home, the Blues Society Of The Treasure Coast. He was awarded top honors at the 2012 Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition. His music is Gospel infused Blues and he can spin a tale brilliantly. His latest albums are the Blues-Roots Cajun Moon and the Blues-Gospel Needed Time. Jim and I spoke about how he came to The Blues, his growing up in rural Kansas and so much more.
Mississippi Fever – Segment Begins At The 1:44:40 Mark
The band hails from St. Louis and is made up of singer/guitarist Brent Barker, bassist Ted May and drummer Tom May. Their sophomore album, 300 Miles to Memphis contains 8 originals and two covers and includes some harp from Brandon Santini and keyboards from Rick Steff. Brent and I spoke about his journey, meeting Ted in Los Angeles, their reconnecting in St. Louis and how the band works as a unit to create their special sound.
SADIE JOHNSON – COUCH KID NEW MUSIC
Segment begins At The 2:33:10 Mark
You might know Sadie from Sad Sam Blues Jam, the band she and her sister formed and brought to the IBCs for the Youth Showcases a few years in a row. She joined me last June to talk about her new band and being inducted into the Brotherhood Of The Guitar. Sadie was signed to the Girls With Guitars Tour in Europe by Ruff Records and just released the newest GWG album with Eliana Cargnelutti and Heather Crosse. She has also formed her own band and we spoke about what is happening in her musical life.
