IN LAYMAN TERMS – COUCH KID NEW MUSIC – WORLD PREMIER
Cole and his sister Logan Layman are long time Couch Kids. We met them a few years back when they were in the Youth Showcase with their other project, The unXpected, at the International Blues Challenge. This year they adding mom Sandy on drums allowed them to compete in the IBC as a band. Now, the Full-Length Album, Get Tangled is ready for release and they honored us by allowing Music On The Couch to Premier it! We spoke about the album, the recording process and Cole’s plans after graduation.
THE DELGADO BROTHERS – Segment Begins At The 45:00 Mark
The Delgado’s have been making music for about 30 years in the Los Angeles area. This past January, they came to Memphis representing the Ventura County Blues Society and walked away as winners in the Band Challenge. Guitarist Joey was also named Gibson Guitar Player for the Challenge. Joey joined me and we talked about the band’s history…their constant desire to “keep it real”, which caused some struggles and their new popularity while we listened to music from 2009’s Learn To Fly.
BILLY PRICE – Segment Begins At The 1:34:00 Mark
Billy has been entertaining fans with his distinctive vocals for decades. He was vocalist on two albums with the great Roy Buchanan and has led his own band since 1990. Last year he released This Time For Real with the late Otis Clay and the album is up for a BMA Nomination. Bob Margolin suggested I bring Billy on when he appeared back in February. What a wonderful chat about his growing up in the music and his time with Otis and Duke Robillard in the studio.
ILANA KATZ KATZ – COUCH KID NEW MUSIC
Segment Begins At The 2:14:00 Mark
Ilana Katz Katz, who we met last year through Anne Harris, who we met from her performing on Jeff Jensen’s album Morose Elephant. I think it is so cool that Couch Kids suggest other artists…it means so much to me. Ilana recently released her new album, Movin’ On, and we talked about the recording of the album around the country, her time in Memphis during the IBC and more.
