Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey’s Top 10 Indie Songs of 2019
Although this list contains 10 songs that really impressed me in 2019. The ranking does suggest the importance of one song or artist over another however it’s rather that these artists have shone brightly on my musical radar. So let’s get started.
Spain to Italy -Dom Martin
What a phenomenal year this young man from Belfast has experienced. From my first meeting with Dom earlier this year, I’ve kept a keen eye on his career.
I’ve been hugely impressed with the potential this man possesses. His rise in the world of music has been nothing short of amazing. 2020 I’m sure will be the most spectacular year yet in the very upward progression in the career of Dom Martin.
Black Cadillac- 61-ghosts
The duo of Joe Mazzari and Dixie Deadwood have without doubt delivered a gem. The passion, the power and the raw primal energy make this song and the album it’s taken from a strong contender for album of the year.
Looking forward to hearing/seeing a lot more from this power pack duo in 2020.
Blood And Fire -John Fairhurst
John Fairhurst is a man with his finger firmly on the pulse of social issues affecting our modern society. His lyrics express all the emotions we as human beings experience each day – happiness, sadness, anger and hope. Blood And Fire, taken from the amazing Divided Kingdom album says it all. It’s about sweating blood every day but it’s still not enough in the unforgiving, unrelenting world we all inhabit.
Music needs people like John. Someone not afraid to nail their colours to the mast. To speak out against glaring social injustices. Lets hope in 2020 that John’s voice will be heard loud and clear.
Funny How- The Davy K Project
As I’ve often said before, the lyrics contained in a song can be a powerful influence to the listener in making a strong connection to the song and the artist. Funny How is a prime example of that. This song tells us what we know in our hearts to be true. If you have a dream, never give up on making the dream real. Follow your heart, do what makes you happy and Funny How you’ll always get there in the end. I rest my case.
Music Confounds The Machines – Villers and the Villains.
With this album Tony Villers and his trusty Villains have produced something really special. Tony is not only a talented singer-songwriter, but his expression of the written word has an effect on the emotions that is a rare and special gift.
Not often that I’ve been brought to tears by the spoken word, but that was the result on my first listen to this emotional masterpiece.
Music Confounds The Machines is definitely a musical highlight of 2019.

Hoodoo Train- Ray Fuller and The Bluesrockers.
Hoodoo Train is the opening track of one of the finest swamp blues rock albums I’ve heard in a very long time.
Those of you who loved the music and stories of the legendary Tony Joe White will be right at home listening to this swamp blues masterpiece. Pay The Price has received widespread recognition as a top release in 2019. With that opinion I wholeheartedly agree. Ray Fuller and The Bluesrockers – a name you’ll hear a lot more of in 2020.
Dead or Alive – Burnt Out Wreck.
The opening track from the excellent album This Is Hell. There has always been a substantial market for high energy exciting rock n roll. Burnt Out Wreck have their fingers firmly on the controls to turn up the volume. We all need to let the good times roll, to take our minds away from the daily grind. This is Hell can give us all that release and hand us a piece of heaven.
Gasoline-Whiskey Myres
Unstoppable and Amazing are two words that might go some way to describe the rapid rise in the career of Whiskey Myres.
The album of the same name has been a huge commercial success, topping the billboard hot 100 album chart.
At a time when the older guard may be getting ready to retire from the business, Whiskey Myers have proven they are more than capable of carrying the torch for southern rock.
Southern Accents- The Allman Betts Band.
The Allman brothers Band produced some of the finest albums ever recorded.
At this stage the offspring of the Allman and Betts families have produced a modern day classic. Southern Accent is a prime example of the beauty and quality that the next generation have managed to produce. The amazing musical influences of these two legendary families looks set to continue for many years to come.

Low-The Ronan Gallagher Band
The theme of never giving up on your dream is certainly the case with Ronan Gallagher, a late recruit to the world of music. Nevertheless Ronan has made a huge Impact with his debut album – Always Broke, Never Broken. When asked in an interview how he would describe his music he replied it genre fluid, with that comment I would be in total agreement. The worldwide accessibility of the internet has allowed Ronan chart success in Canada, Australia and South Africa to name but a few.
With a new album well on the way to completion, 2020 looks set to continue the amazing success of 2019.
It couldn’t happen to a more deserving person.
