Lady J Huston is respected as one of the most spectacular entertainers on the music scene! She is renowned for her captivating vocals, trumpet and mesmerizing stage presence.
Lady J toured as Music Director with Blues legend, Albert King performing on shows with greats such as B.B. King, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland, Robert Cray and more! A native St. Louisan, she settled in Las Vegas, NV for 25 years winning multiple Blues Music Awards and reigned as The Las Vegas Queen of Blues; appearing on America’s Got Talent, ABC World News Tonight, festivals, showrooms, TV, newspapers, magazines and other media outlets.
THE LADY J HUSTON SHOW is an electrifying blend of Las Vegas pizzazz with the sass of St. Louis Blues, Classic Soul & Jazz. The band members also showcase their talents providing an array of unquestionable, foot-tapping fun that audiences love.
On Friday, May 19, 2023, Lady J’s “Groove Me Baby (Album)” was released worldwide. The same named single dropped on July 22, 2022 with rave reviews, placing as a Semi-Finalist (2022) with the International Songwriting Competition (ISC), and Bronze Award (2022) with the Global Music Awards. Lady J’s UniSun Productions record label has partnered with the Earwig Music Company for physical and digital distribution for the single releases and album.
Lady J was inspired to sing and dance by her mother, Loyce (Pickens) Huston, a highly acclaimed songstress amongst St. Louis for Gospel, Jazz & Blues. She helped launch the careers of many musicians and entertainers.
Just in her teens, Lady J got her first taste of fame with a national star as vocalist with Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer, Johnnie Johnson (a.k.a. Father of Rock ‘n Roll piano), who was Chuck Berry’s original pianist in which the song “Johnny B. Good” was written in honor of.
At 18, she began touring the United States with the legendary Blues & Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer, Albert “Blues Boy” King band for several years as lead Trumpeter, then horn section leader, and eventually moved up the ranks as Music Director, as well as opening act while being the only female in the band. She performed amongst music legends such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Millie Jackson, Bo Didley, KoKo Taylor,, and many others. Lady J also performed with Albert King on the only known, fully televised, performance featuring his band on the “Maintenance Shop Blues” PBS special.
Lady J Huston had her eyes set on the bright city lights and entertainment mecca of the world, Las Vegas, NV where she resided for 25 years. This was another pivotal career advancement where she formed her dynamic band, Lady J Huston & The Fireballs. The group opened for multiple national acts as well as headlining in showrooms, concert halls, Blues and Jazz festivals, nightclubs, private corporate events and more.
In 2009, she received her first Blues award with the Las Vegas Black Music Association (BMA) for Best Blues Performer which began her reign as the Las Vegas Queen of the Blues. She and her band continued winning a string of awards as Best Blues Band and Best Blues Performer. In 2013 they were inducted into the Entertainment Consumers’ Exchange & Fans Entertainment Hall of Fame.
In 2018, The Lady J Huston Show debuted in St. Louis, MO at the National Blues Museum. Lady J has performed this show regularly throughout the mid-west, including at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. She is featured on the St. Louis Blues Society’s “18 in 18” CD Compilation with her 18-piece Big-Band Jazz & Blues composition “Hide-Away”, that also placed as a Semi-Finalist (2021) in the International Songwriting Competition. Lady J won the National Blues Museum’s songwriting competition (2021) for her recording “Corona You Make Me Sick!”. She was the only local performer featured in their “Pandemic Blues” exhibit.
In June 2022, “Lady J Huston Presents The Albert King Alumni Tribute Show” debuted at the Missouri History Museum. In September 2022, this prestigious group of musicians was one of the featured headliners at the Music at the Intersection Festival in St. Louis alongside; Erykah Badu, Gary Clark, Jr., Buddy Guy, Booker T. Jones, and other national touring acts.
Lady J is also producing a documentary featuring the Albert King Alumni group’s performances and behind the scenes stories on touring with the very demanding but highly influential guitarist. King is inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, Blues Hall of Fame, and other acclaimed organizations. In March 2023, Lady J accepted Albert King’s induction into the St. Louis Classic Rock Preservation Society Hall of Fame (2022) on behalf of his family.
