JP Soars and the Red Hots played Darwin’s in Sandy Springs Saturday night. What an amazing musician that man is! Who else do we know who mixes original tunes in with not only blues but gypsy jazz and Latin music? He moves easily from his own songs to  Django Reinhardt, Johnny Guitar Watson, and Muddy Waters, and he makes his own cigar box guitars!

The cigar box guitar he played during the set we saw sounded absolutely astonishing. It just doesn’t seem possible that that incredible sound can come out of a instrument with just a couple of strings. Soars’  slide work is amazing, both on his regular guitar and his electrified cigar box guitar. Add to that his expressive vocals and the smoking Red Hots and it was a great show all around!

Soars and his band are friendly, humble and personable. They are a joy to listen to and a joy to meet, If you have a chance, go to see them wherever you are. And we will be eagerly waiting the new album coming out shortly as well!
