Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey’s Interview with Jessey Jackson
A rare gem indeed; Jessey Jackson is quite simply a force to be reckoned with! Far from your average ‘run of the mill’ female performer; this self taught singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist is often likened to celebrated artists such as the immortal Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge, Tracy Chapman and Stevie Nicks. Her formidable raw and gutsy vocals; backed by foot driven beats, harmonies, rhythm, slide & lead guitars; create both a unique and powerful wall of sound. With performances featuring everything from silky smooth folk, to dirty slide blues, rock, country and soul; Jessey passionately delivers to audiences of all ages a truly diverse and entertaining one woman show!
Jessey received her first guitar at the tender age of 7, attending a handful of guitar lessons at age 8. Despite her limited knowledge, Jessey performed occasionally at local Country & Western clubs and in her early twenties attended the odd open mic. Throughout this period Jessey wrote original poems and musical compositions but lacked the confidence to follow her dream of performing them live in local venues. At age 25 Jessey sought to overcome her reservations by teaching herself more of the guitar. Through perseverance and experimentation she soon developed her very own style and subsequently found her true voice. In 2010 a 27 year old Jessey Jackson took to the stage at the inaugural Anglesea Music Festival, with nothing more than her vocals and a single semi acoustic guitar. This was her first major gig. After wowing audiences at multiple performances throughout the festival it became clear to many that Jessey was both a unique and remarkable talent.
Since her initial performance at the 2010 Anglesea Music Festival, Jessey has gone on to further develop her distinct vocal style and overall sound – adding harmonies, electronic percussion and several guitars to her act. Jessey’s song writing ability has also matured; and in early 2014 she released her 11 track album Deliver Me – a self performed recorded, mixed and mastered compilation. The album has since attained much praise from those within the industry and from music enthusiast’s alike; also gaining airplay on local radio. In Late 2015 Jessey released her second Album ‘Carousel’ which was also recorded, mixed and mastered by Jessey, this time with a diploma of Sound Production under her belt.
The Carousel album features a full band including Australia’s best female drummer Andrea (Bam Bam) Norden on drums and percussion, also on drums and percussion Bob Gillett, Pete Langley on Bass and Steve Thew on keys & harmonica. Carousel has been very well received by the public and critics alike and continues to surprise and delight any who purchase a copy.
Whilst trapped in isolation due to the covid-19 pandemic Jessey completed her third studio album in a two bedroom unit in WA (recorded, mixed, mastered etc by Jessey @ Guitar Gypsy Studio with thanks to Oxygen College) The latest offering Gypsy Willow showcases Jessey’s gift for portraying the human condition with fabulous clarity, weaving together lyrics to convey the joy, sorrow, pleasures and pain we all experience on our life’s journey. Once again Jessey was joined by the fabulous Bam Bam (Andrea Joy Norden) on drums as well as other guest musicians. Despite the ongoing Covid Crisis the Gypsy Willow album has now been formally released as of July 6th 2020 along with new merchandise & promotional material. Orders can be made from the CD’s & Merch page.
