Gaye Adegbalola was a member of “Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women” from 1984 thru 2009. The Anthology includes selections from her nine solo projects. Songs include the classic blues of Ma Rainey “Prove It On Me” and “Jelly Bean Blues”.
Born Gaye Todd, Adegbalola, got her new surname from an African priest. In 1990 she won a Blues Music Award for “Song of The Year” for Middle-Aged Blues Boogie” the lead track on her Alligator Records Debut.
Recent albums include 2012’s “Blues In All Flavors” and 2014’s “Is It Still Good To Ya” recorded with her group The Wild Rutz. She followed up with another BMA nominationin 2016 for “Acoustic Artist of the Year”.
Topical tunes include “Nothing’s Changed” and “Kaepernicked”. Adegbalola also includes several children’s songs including “Blues In The Greens”. She also covers The Beatles “Let It Be Me”.
