Recorded live in Switzerland, this is the follow-up recording to “Complicated Mess” on Eller Soul Records. After a short introduction from the band they open with an instrumental including solos from bassist Gohman and saxes played by “Sax” Gordon and Terry Hanck.
Deming was born and raised in the greater Detroit area. Deming is a guitarist who influences include R n’ B and jazz pioneers T-Bone Walker and Charlie Christian. Deming’s debut recording “Double Down” was released in 2002. He came to national attention with his third album 2012’s “What’s It Gonna Take”. As a result Deming was the recipient of the 2013 Blues Blast Sean Costello Rising Star Award.
Deming currently resides on the Gulf Coast of Florida. His music combines traditional blues, rockabilly, jazz, swing, soul and R n ‘B. This is Deming’s fifth album overall. During his twenty year career Deming has toured and recorded with many top artists.
The band on this live recording includes bassist Gohman, the twin saxes of Gordon and Hanck, the keyboards of Bill Heid, and the drums and harmonica of Zack Pomerleau. Along with ten new songs are three familiar covers. Originals include “Only Time Will Tell” on which we get to hear Demings’ voice and Pomerleau on drums and harmonica. “Put It Down” is a jazzy shuffle with another vocal reminiscent of Demings’ jazz influences especially Charlie Christian. Organist Heid solos.
“I’m Ready” is the Fats Domino classic with the saxes. “Oh Baby” is the co-written Willie Dixon and Little Walter classic with more harp from Pomerleau. “Every Night When I Get Home” is a slow soul blues masterfully sung by Deming. Excellent contributions include Heid on piano. “Bloodshot Eyes” is the rockabilly classic with the fabulous horns.
Four more Deming originals are included. “Momma Didn’t Raise No Fool” with Pomerleau on harp; “No Sense” with the lyric “you got no sense in your head”; a Muddy Waters styled tune “An Eye For An Eye” again with some great harp; and the closer, over 8 minutes from the band as everyone gets to solo.
Deming proves his worth several times over on this fabulous live performance.
