Making a Scene Presents an Interview with D’Lakes

d’Lakes has a new album and it’s amazing! It has a specular title too “HEAVEN IS A SILENT DISCO.” I can’t wait for you to hear it! I really appreciate all the chances and direction that Drew and his band took on this album. It’s bright, punchy, colorful and oh so memorable! I find myself singing his songs long after they are over. Their second track Laughing as A Symbol (Note Passing) is one of my absolute favorites! Their first track Dare To Be Bogus is sassy and I love it! Track 3 Not So So-So Anymore is just as fabulous! Drew takes an honest approach in his lyrics and doesn’t hold back. That is something I can get behind! I could hear these songs in a movie soundtrack for a coming of age teen drama. They are hip, spunky and driven! After the celebration of d’Lakes’ 2021 debut album, Unforgettable Cheer, d’Lakes is back with a more mature and vibrant take on joy through their nontraditional pop lens. Engineering much of the album together, Drew and Ben achieved a more intimate, personalized sound through endless creative possibilities, concocting songs brimming with layered drums, sonic left turns, secret messages, unexpected transitions and plenty more. Even so, their new album proves to be the poppiest collection of tunes in their catalog to date! HEAVEN IS A SILENT DISCO was inspired by the turning of lurid heartbreak into the throes of self discovery and the nurturing of a more discerning love. “While writing the first d’Lakes album, I wanted to create a pure heartwarming album devoid of conflict. With this new record, I felt compelled to bring the same queer elation, but through a more realistic story, one where joy is something we’re responsible for and maintain rather than bestowed upon us.” Heaven Is A Silent Disco wanders through the forest of ambiguity to the clearing of peace and certainty.
