An In Depth Interview with Kerrie Lepai Jones
Kerrie Lepai was born April 15, 1973 to the parents of Michael and Carol Lepai. At an early age she was always singing, and people that knew her knew she had the talent to sing. Kerrie got her singing talent from her mother, and her grandmother. Her grandmother was a professional wedding singer, and her mother is still singing in church today. Kerrie also had deep roots singing in church. She sang in an all black congregation with R & B recording artist Robert ( Goodie ) Whitfield who recorded on the Total Experience Record Label. In 1993 Kerrie met blues guitarist Jerry Jines. Jerry was the only white musician playing at R.L. Griffin’s Blues Palace Club. Jerry and Kerrie had a son together, and he also taught Kerrie about the music business.
Kerrie would also sit in and sing at R.L.’s, where she more than held her own with one of the hardest audiences in the Dallas, Texas area. During that time she met Andrew Jr. Boy Jones. In between gigs with Charlie Musselwhite he would sit in with R.L. Griffins band. In 1995 Kerrie started hosting one of the hottest jams in Dallas. The jam lasted for 15 years. She had the respect of the who’s who in music. She would hire national and international artists to play with her. Such artist as jazz pianist Bobby Sparks, jazz keyboardist Bernard Wright, blues great Lucky Peterson, blues artist Texas Slim, blues artist Shawn Pittman, blues artist Andrew Jr. Boy Jones, and the list goes on with some of the best musicians Texas has to offer.
Kerrie was also headliner on the bill at The Hawgs of Texas bike rallies of more than ten thousand bikers. To date she is featured artist with the Andrew Jr. Boy Jones Band. Kerrie is featured on Andrew Jr. Boy Jones’ d.v.d. Hell In My House on the North Atlantic Blues Label. Kerrie is also a featured artist on the new c.d. I Know What it’s Like with 43rd Big Idea Records where she’s featured on three songs. Two songs she wrote and sang on. Kerrie Lepai is going to be something special in the blues for years to come.
