An In Depth Interview with Heather Newman
Heather’s journey as a musician began from a very young age. She always had a love of singing and as she grew, that love grew along with her. At the age of 10, she joined the Blues Society of Omaha youth artists program, Blues Ed, as a vocalist. Her band had their first performance on the Playing with Fire Stage in front of over a thousand people.
During her time in the Blues Ed program she had the opportunity to support many amazing national and international blues acts such as Corky Siegel, Peter Karp, Toni Lynn Washington, Trampled Under Foot, Junior Watson, Ellis Hooks, and Walter Trout. She even participated in a vocal workshop lead by singers Dawn Tyler Watson, Shakura S’Aida, and Angel Forrest.
“Heather Newman is clearly comfortable as a leader of the band (more like keeper of the band’s happiness.) Coaxing her guys through songs with smiles and attention, she never misses a beat while doing what it takes to make sure the sounds are on track.”

Her Kansas City appearance with the Nick Schnebelen Band, at the beginning of 2015, brought on a swift cascade of fans and supporters from across the nation. Once again, she had many chances to perform with top names in the blues scene today, gaining momentum as a powerhouse vocalist and solid rhythm player. She participated in the release Nick Schnebelen Band: Live at Knucklehead’s Vol. 1 in early 2016 through Vizztone Label Group. Her time with the Nick Schnebelen Band came to an end when she stepped up to take center stage with her own group the following year.
The Heather Newman Band’s first performance was at the legendary Knucklehead’s Saloon, a Kansas City tourist destination, in March of 2017. Since then, she has created an energetic, fun, and soulful stage performance with a killer original set. Her band members make it all possible, locking in with her deep rooted beats to produce a one of a kind medley of various styles such as soul, funk, blues, rock, and more. With the Heather Newman Band, no show is ever the same and that is the very thing that keeps her fans coming back for more.
