Live and Havin Fun
Vizztone Label Group
“Live And Havin’ Fun” from Deb Ryder is her sixth album and first live recording. Included are fourteen originals including two completely new songs written by executive producer Deb and her husband bassist Ric W. Ryder. The album opens with “Fun Never Hurt No One” with the refrain “get your party on” and special guest Joe Sublett on saxophone.
Deb got her start as a teenager when she would open for visiting artists at her father’s nightclub. Some of the artists she opened for included Etta James, Big Joe Turner, Charlie Musselwhite, and Taj Mahal. Deb recorded her debut album “Might Just Get Lucky” in 2013. Her follow-up albums include 2015’s “Let It Rain”, the following year’s “Grit Grease & Tears”, 2018’s “Enjoy The Ride” and her last studio release 2021’s “Memphis Moonlight”. This new recording is Deb’s sixth album overall.
This new live recording features some of California’s best musicians including Johnny Lee Schell, guitar; Jim Pugh, Hammond B-3; and Tony Braunagel, drums. Rounding out the outstanding ensemble are harmonica ace Tex Nakamura, guitarist Alan Maggini, saxophonist Lon Price, and trumpeter Paul Litteral.
Guest guitarist Albert Lee appears on “Temporary Insanity”, “Ma Misere” with it’s New Orleans second-line beat, and on “Any Bottle On The Shelf” featuring some great harmonica from Takamura. Other guitarists appearing include Joey Delgado and Big Llou Johnson on “Bring The Walls Down” with spoken word from Van G. Garrett, and Arthur Menezes on “Goodbye Baby”. Additional highlights include “Get Ready”, “for revolution”; and “B.L.U.E.S. is All I Got” with some additional harmonica from Nakamura.
Deb Ryder is at her very best when performing live. Check her out on this great new recording.
