Little Voices
On December 21st of 2011, after just leaving the stages of Broadway in New York, recording artist and Broadway star Crystal Starr- had an idea of producing a benefit Christmas concert for children in foster care. It would be a benefit concert filled with music, joy and gift giveaway for the benefit of the foster children and their families during the Christmas season.
On December 22nd, 2011, the officially named “Crystal Starr Christmas” took place at Barnsdall Theater in Hollywood, California, and benefitted the children in foster care of the Los Angeles County. Over 300 children in the foster system were served that evening, and after the concert each child was given a gift at the end, with the help of several donors.
What started without a venue, lineup, or budget quickly transformed into a full-fledged production in a matter of weeks, thanks to generous donations and sponsorships from Crystal and Kem’s professional network. Within days a 17-piece all woman orchestra, Celebrity Line ups, a drum line, two choirs, prominent musicians and singers, sponsored ice cream, gifts, and a Santa Claus impersonator all gave back to an audience of 300 boys and girls in the foster care system giving them a Christmas they would cherish forever.
The greatest gift was the later adoption of two young girls who were in attendance that night. As we continued to grow, the next year attendance tripled in size. We had more families and more kids that wanted to be impacted. In December of 2017, our founder Crystal Starr released her single called #SHE. She was moved to begin another benefit concert series that would impact the lives of millions of Girls in Foster Care with a powerful Concert series entitled “SHE SESSIONS” You are enough, based off of her single #SHE from her newly released album. Since 2017 #SHE SESSIONS has impacted over 1600 girls in Foster Care empowering girls to believe in themselves by knowing they are not their past. Its a safe Haven where woman artists, Ceo’s, and entreprenuers can be tangible and gather together to uplift an audience of little girls in foster care and inner city youth who need to here them share their stories of triumph. Because we are all #SHE. Simply put Crystal Starr’s Vision for Little Voices will change the way we look at the problems we face with youth in the Foster Care system. Because without changing the heart we cannot change anything.
