Celebrating The Atlanta Blues Society at Blind Willie’s Feb 21
Picture us, The Atlanta Blues Society ,a strong an friendly group of music lovers who, when they get together monthly, always have fun, with a lot of music from a host group and a member jam, and a little bit of business in the middle. But when February rolls around and it’s time for the annual Membership meeting, when people renew their membership (or join), well, then it’s like a family reunion if your family includes some very talented blues musicians.
This year’s host band, as you see us in your mind, is Mudcat an the Atlanta Horns, so you know right away there is be laughter, a bit of mayhem, and fantastic music Even if you’ve seen them perform their current show, which consists of playing their current album, While You Were Away, from start to finish, it is never the same twice and Mudcat, Little Joe, Esquil, Snave and the Horns are so much fun to watch, too, it’s just a ready-made party when they play.
And just the fact that we’re meeting at Blind Willie’s, a place so full of Atlanta blues history, adds to the atmosphere immensely.
Then there’s the heartwarming moment when Co-Presidents George klein and Barb Hilke, give Lifetime Memberships to Carlos Capote, long-time member and vocalist and harmonica player with the incredible Breeze Kings, and to Jimmy Warmoth, who handled merchandise for many years for the society. They present special posters to Spike of Blind Willies and member Lyn billings, as well as to ABS Webmaster Michael Davis.
Then we have a raffle and there is a jam, and…
Well, you get the idea. We were a whole bunch of people united by the Blues and having a whole lot of fun.
You don’t have to wait for next February if you would like to join. You can join at any monthly meeting or online.
