Each week we interview independent musicians about their career, the Music Business and their views of what is happening in their genre.
An interview with Kid and Lisa Andersen highlights their pivotal roles at Little Village, producing over 60 albums. Their double CD debut showcases Kid’s surprising vocal talent and Lisa’s powerful lead singing, both supported by the Greaseland All-Stars. Featuring special guests, it celebrates their remarkable contributions to the music scene.
Georgina White, a British/Austrian RADA-trained actor and singer-songwriter, has a prolific career both on stage and screen. She’s performed in major roles including in the West End and theaters across the UK. Known for portraying darker characters, she created the musical play ‘Villainess.’ Recently, she toured with “Operation Julie” and “Dido’s Bar.” Georgina also works as a vocal coach and performs with the trio “The Sass Sisters.”
Hans Halstead discovered his songwriting talent after a breakup, creating music by combining guitar riffs and phone-recorded vocals. Encouraged by a friend, he added lyrics, focusing on personal themes. At college, he met Jason Orris at The Terrarium Music Studios and began collaborating. His style blends modern Country with timeless storytelling influenced by his Northern Minnesota roots.
Curtis Salgado is an acclaimed vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter known for his dynamic performances and soulful music. Having overcome significant health challenges, he has won multiple Blues Music Awards and gained international fame. His latest album, “Fine By Me,” showcases his versatile songwriting and powerful voice, blending blues, gospel, R&B, and more.
Grammy-nominated guitarist Rick Vito, renowned for his work with Fleetwood Mac, has excelled as a solo artist and collaborator with legends like Bob Seger and Bonnie Raitt. He earned a Grammy nomination and W.C. Handy Blues Award, and designs guitars for Reverend Guitars. His 2023 album “Cadillac Man” is out now.
Chris Robeson, a Texas songwriter from Austin, will release his debut album “Euphoriphobia” in July 2024. Drawing from personal struggles and influences like Tom Waits and Townes Van Zandt, Robeson’s eclectic style mixes humor and poignancy. Collaborating with Gabriel Rhodes, the album offers introspective songs exploring happiness and loss.
JP Soars, renowned blues guitarist and vocalist, attributes his success to dedication and passion. With awards like the 2009 International Blues Challenge and an acclaimed discography, Soars, along with his band the Red Hots, enjoys a celebrated career. He remains humble and grateful, valuing fan connection and live performances worldwide.
Jeff Worley, guitarist of Jackyl, discusses his multifaceted career spanning over 25 years, with achievements including Guinness World Records, TV features, and authorship of three books. Now, he explores painting, drawing inspiration from his artistic roots and personal philosophy. Jeff emphasizes authenticity and allowing creativity to naturally unfold.
Anthony Geraci, born in 1954 in New Haven, CT, is a renowned pianist and composer who began playing piano at age four. Influenced by blues legends and a close friend, he rose to fame, recording with numerous artists. His celebrated albums include “Fifty Shades of Blue” and “Daydreams in Blue.” He has garnered multiple Blues Music Award nominations and wins, with his latest album “Tears in My Eyes” set for release in spring 2024.
Emily Hicks, a Utah-based folk-pop singer/songwriter, captivates audiences with her powerful vocals and nature-inspired lyrics. Originally a classical pianist and educator, she transitioned into music with the release of singles produced by Grammy-nominated Monty Powell. Her debut album “Weird Wild Wonderful” releases in fall 2024, marking her national tour.
Jeff Worley, Jackyl’s guitarist and founding member, has spent over 25 years as a professional musician, selling millions of records and holding Guinness World Records. Besides music, he’s authored three books and ventured into painting. Worley emphasizes creativity, spontaneity, and self-belief in both his music and art.
Stevie and the Blue Flames, a staple in Seattle since the 1980s, are celebrated for their original blues songs and energetic performances in clubs, parties, and festivals. Their music features swing, shuffles, and funk tempos to keep dancers entertained. They’ve toured globally and recorded over 10 albums.
Derrick Dove & the Peacekeepers, known for extensive touring, released their acclaimed debut album in 2018, reaching #5 on the iTunes blues charts. After enduring personal and global challenges, including COVID and Derrick’s father’s death, they released “Rough Time” in October 2023, which topped blues charts and gained 4 million streams.
Ping Rose, a Memphis singer and guitarist, blends blues with rock influences to create a unique musical style in “Conjure Man,” his follow-up to “Sketchbook.” The album features a mix of energetic instrumentals, funky tunes, and soulful lyrics, highlighting Rose’s exceptional guitar work and collaborations with various artists.
