Bruce Katz at Darwin’s Marietta, GA, Feb. 19
Bruce Katz brought his band Darwin’s in Marietta, GA Friday, Feb. 19 and played for a large and appreciative crowd.
The crowd had been well warmed up by Catfish and Co., headed by Hill Roberts. They put on an excellent opening show., although there were so many people on stage they could hardly move! But the crowd really appreciated them, and they kept everyone entertained for over an hour until the Bruce Katz Band took the stage.
Katz, who has been playing recently with Gregg Allman and Friends as well as with Delbert McClinton and many others, was, of course, excellent. As a keyboard player, he is highly skilled, dramatic and fun to watch. It is very quickly apparent why he has been nominated multiple times for Blues Music Awards, including the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year Award.
Katz himself does not sing, but vocals were ably handled by guitarist Chris Vitarello and very special guest Lamar Williams.
It was a rollicking, fun time as the band ran through songs ranging from Katz’ own material, including the recent Homecoming album to Allman Brothers songs, covering, a wide range of blues styles. Katz has not only mastered his craft, but he has added band members and friends who have mastered theirs. It ail added up to another great evening at Darwin’s.
