The Breeze Kings played Guston’s Grille in Kennesaw Friday night. Guston’s is an inviting place with great, reasonably priced food, a bar and a friendly staff. The stage is sizable and we could see very well from where we sat. It turned out to be a case of the perfect band in the perfect venue.

The Breeze Kings, consisting of Jim Ransone on blistering lead guitar, Gregg Shapiro on thundering bass, and Trevor Roberts on pounding drums, have been voted Best Atlanta Blues Band many times and you only have to see them to know why. They put their whole hearts into the music, and they aim to entertain.

The evening started off with Ransone. Shapiro, and Roberts delivering a couple of fast, exciting instrumentals. Shapiro and Roberts provided stellar support to Ransone’s incendiary skill. We were primed then, for the arrival onstage of Carlos Capote, a larger-than-life personality onstage with incredible harp skills and powerful voice capable of delivering songs like “Howlin’ For My Baby” in a way the late, great Howlin’ Wolf would approve, without the need to crank the sound system full blast. I love harmonica players and Capote floors me every time.

I have no idea when the music ended, but we left at midnight, completely satisfied with The Breeze Kings’ authentic, energetic blues. It was so much fun! We loved Guston’s Grille in Kennesaw and we love The Breeze Kings. Check them both out!
