Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos
Independent
Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos are a relatively new band. Formed in 2012 their debut recording was 2014’s “Get ROO’D”. They followed up with the live “ROO’D Awakening” in 2016. The Conqueroos are two time International Blues Challenge semi-finalists who have opened or shared the stage with Tab Benoit, Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia, Rick Estrin and others.
Rosano, guitar, mandolin and vocals; Jeremy “JB” Bustillos, harp, sax and vocals; Paul Warren, bass; and Scott Smith, drums and percussion; made the trip to New Orleans in October of 2016 to record a new studio album. Produced by Zito the album features guest appearances by Anders Osborne, Johnny Sansone and Michael Harvey. Zito also plays second guitar on a number of tracks.
The bands brand of blues rock is heavily influenced by Chicago blues, delta blues, and New Orleans funk; so recording in New Orleans was a natural. Rosano states he loves guitar playing but even more importantly he loves songwriting. All of the songs were written by him except for one.
“Give Me The Strength” includes the lyric “give me the strength to let her go” and “Revolve”, “revolve around me and I’ll revolve around you”; are two very good vocals from Rosano who also plays some fine guitar. J.B. plays harp on the former but switches to sax on the latter.
The autobiographical “Long Island Sound”, is a slower tune featuring Sansone on accordion and JB on sax. On “Shakin in The Veins”, Rosano sings “that boy is shakin in the veins with a needle and spoon”; Osborne plays slide while JB plays harp. “Proud of My Sins” features the fiddle of Michael Harvey and Rosano on the mandolin. “You Don’t Know Me” is a groove written by Smith.
Repeated listening will only cause the Conqueroos to grow on you. This is a band worth following.
