Making a Scene presents an Interview with Martha Reich!
New Mexico Award Winning Singer-Songwriter and Instrumentalist Martha Reich, has performed at some of the most respected venues throughout the USA and internationally. Opening for Kate MacLeod, playing Festivals to include The Sundance Film Festival, and sharing Stages with Melissa Crabtree, Consuelo Luz, Grant Maloy Smith, Robert Coxon, Tina Malia, James Twyman, Reverend Horten Heat and JJ Grey & Mofro.
“With a sound almost woven out of the earth, Reich sings from the brittle openings of the heart. To take in the art that comes from such a place opens up our lives in ways that are impossible to measure but so important to hold onto.” – James Diaz, Anti-Heroin Chic Magazine.
Reich returns with her most personal songs yet on “BRAVE BIRD”.
Each song is an intimate window into her journey from fear to courage—from self-doubt to self-acceptance. After personally laying the foundation for all the songs using six different instruments, (Banjo, Steel and Nylon String Guitars, Dulcimer, Piano and Ukulele) Martha carefully chose complimentary musicians to fill in the sound, including Grammy award winning producer, engineer and guitarist Larry Mitchell.
“Reich has a beautiful tone to her vocals, clear and crisp and the production is sympathetic, gentle and warm. It touches one’s soul. She spins her poetic songs akin to a spider weaving its web. So subtle and poetic, the record is awash with vignettes as she speaks of how preciouson “Fade Away“, the stillness on “So Brave” and with spare use of piano, “The River” effortlessly winds its way to the heart and soul of the listener. Her version of “Over the Rainbow” is as you would expect, as delicate as a flower in bloom. Reich’s guitar work, coupled with cello and JQ Whitcomb’s trumpet set it off in style. – Maurice Hope, Flyingshoes Review
With vocals reminiscent of icons like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez and an originality impossible to duplicate, Marthaʼs songs possess an exquisite poetry, capturing the depth of personal and universal subjects, while tapping into something true and real for all that listen deeply with their minds as well as hearts. Inspired by the contradictions of everyday life; Anchored by the truth and beauty of natureʼs elements, Martha is an authentic troubadour. She delivers her songs with beauty, intelligence and honesty that gives new meaning to similar moments in our own lives.
After winning Global Music Awards in 2017 and 2016, The Southwest Independent Music Award in 2015 and 2014 New Mexico Music Award for Best Folk Song. Reich most recently won a 2018 Global Music Award and 2018 Clouzine international Music Award for her album “BRAVE BIRD”,
