An Exclusive Interview with Nick Fishman by Richard Lhommedieu on Mixcloud
San Francisco based drummer and bandleader Nick Fishman’s debut album California Fresh brings blues into the modern world with a slickness and big city sophistication currently found nowhere else in the idiom. The album, which features an eight piece band made up of San Francisco’s top call Blues and Jazz players, show what they’re made of on nine original songs and an arrangement of Little Richard’s Freedom Blues.
Bio
Nick became an in-demand Jazz drummer in San Francisco after graduating high school in 2002, and shortly after became one of the top call sidemen for bands of all genres playing everywhere from small jazz clubs, huge rock venues, to some of the biggest festivals across the globe.
In 2009 Nick began a four year stint with internationally acclaimed Blues and Soul singer John Nemeth, which included extensive touring and recording three albums. Currently, Nick maintains a busy performing and touring schedule with various artists. Some of the notable blues acts he’s had the privilege of playing with include Earl Thomas, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, John “Blues” Boyd, Rusty Zinn and Kid Andersen.
Nick is extremely excited to have finally recorded this long awaited blues project, which he describes as “Modern California Blues” and hopes you’ll enjoy!
Quotes

-Chris “Kid” Andersen
“Nick is my top call U.S. drummer right now and his level of musicianship is second to none. I was totally blown away by his CD. It’s the perfect example of someone who has a deep understanding of traditional Blues and Soul music, yet he’s not blatantly copying my ancestors. He’s doing something new, but it’s authentic, extremely impressive and it is definitely something fresh”
-Earl Thomas
“This is not your Daddy’s blues, Nick Fishman has a new feelin’ going on and it’s cool California Fresh”
