Making a Scene Brings you a review from Jared Dustin Griffin
Jared Dustin Griffin is a singer-songwriter with influences coming from Americana, Blues, and Country music. Raised in the west he took to the road at an early age, traveling across the country and abroad to carve his voice out of the roots of the American songwriting tradition.
Doggedly committed to his craft, Jared spent most of his 20’s and 30’s sleeping on couches and picking up odd jobs so that he could focus on songwriting. Fronting several bands during this time he was able to scrape together enough to release several records and tour, both headlining and supporting acts such as Emmylou Harris, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Lost Dog Street Band.
Jared had intense bouts of creativity during/despite the pandemic, and with personal and social topics to draw from Jared found himself with several albums worth of material.
Battle Cry Mercy earned it name from the struggles, sacrifices, and redemption represented in the songs. Having long battled with mental health and addiction, Jared pursued his career through repeated homelessness, broken hearts, and misery. These are more universal conditions than social media might reflect, which is why the impassioned lyrics and belted aches of one songwriter full of purpose but adrift in this life hit home. If you have known self-afflicted misery, loneliness, and resentment, this album might just be for you.
