Dave Specter opens Disc one with the song “Buzz Me Baby” and the line “buzz me baby, I’ll be waiting for your call, if you forgot the number you don’t have to call at all. Specter is always evolving utilizing tempo changes as on “Wind Chill” which reminds me of “Peter Gunn”, Specter utilizes tenor saxophone players Dez Desormeaux, Red Groetzinger, and John “Boom” Brumbach.
Spector also uses bassists Mike McCurdy, Bob Stroger, and Harlan Terson, and drummers Jon Hiller, Mark Fornek, Mike Schlick, and Marty Binder. Specter perfected his style playing to live audiences in Japan and by playing with his good friend Steve Fruend. He recorded his first album in Japan in 1991.
“The train rolled into the station but my baby can’t be found, somebody told me she got off in another town”. I love the sad sax utilized on this song. The only topical song was released as a single and the “Ballad of George Floyd completes this 2 hrs and 40 minutes of bliss.
