Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Joe Veloz of Joseph and the Velozians
Throughout my career as a musician, I have strived to accomplish a high level of skill as a bassist by creating and developing deep organic grooves along with strong song and melodic sensitivity. As a GHS String endorsed artist, I am blessed to have their support to enable me to expand into new ventures in both live and recorded music.
As I have evolved and grown, I have also refined my role as composer, arranger, and producer. I have showcased my ability to perform in multiple stylings/genres with the release of my self-produced debut CD Offerings in 2017 and my most current CD Joseph And The Velozians.
I have also been able to share my love for the Lord by performing Contemporary Christian music with the creative arts worship teams at Oak Pointe Church at their Novi and Canton, campus in Michigan and with Northridge Church in Plymouth, Michigan. This is a joy and passion that is very important in my life. The ability to spread the Word and love of Jesus is such a blessing and an honor.
I was a classically trained upright player at Wayne Memorial High School and transferred that fundamental knowledge of bass and music over to bass guitar at the age of 15. I studied music performance at Wayne State University in Detroit and at The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. From those beginnings I have been a working musican for over 25 years. I have performed and traveled with blues greats Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Lucky Peterson, Sherman Robertson, Eddie Kirkland, Larry McCray and Thornetta Davis. Other artists that I have toured with include Mississippi Heat from Chicago, Kelly Hunt from Kanas, Joanne Shaw Taylor from the UK, Shawn Kellerman from Canada, James Armstrong from IL, just to name a few.
I have been so blessed to tour the whole US and some fourteen different countries throughout my career and look forward to more travel plans that are coming in the future.
I am grateful to live my life meeting so many people that inspire Joy in the world. Music can reach every person in a different way but there is no doubt that it can change your life, give hope, express love, and heal your soul. I plan to continue sharing what inspires me for as long as I am able.
