MaMo to Pinokio

“The songs were recorded during several sessions in 2020 and 2021 between lockdowns. The idea for the song title was inspired by The Guillotines “BoJo The Clown”. They have their Clown, we have our Pinocchio.”

The Polish band Szczeciński Zespół Dupa ,translated as “The Szczecin Asshole Ensemble or Ass Band From Szczecin” was founded in 1995 and should actually serve as a one-off project

But then the band came together which today consists of

Gregor – guitar, Piotrek – bass, Lepu – drums and Gurcin – vocals.

After the album was released in July 1995, they broke up and came back over twenty years later. They re-arranged and re-recorded the album without further ado and made their debut on all streaming platforms as well as on YouTube with several video clips. That was in 2018.

They started recording new songs but were thwarted by the pandemic. And now they bring us “MaMo to Pinokio”, an EP with five songs that will make friends of well-groomed punk sit up and take notice!

The title track “Mamo to Pinokio” is a great introduction to this EP exploding with power. Cheeky and loud and yet sonorous, yes … that goes well together, fun fact is that there are some well-known names in this song, e.g. Sven Hannawald, one of the most famous ski jumpers in Germany, but also Chuck Norris and the grandmaster of chess Kasparov play a role in the song.

“Podwójna strata”, in English Double Loss, is a critical song and sung in a well-known cheeky way, not loud but haunting and impressive.

great lyrics, sweeping like everything the band did presents.

“Krew” , in English blood, is a song with a dark theme, perfectly translated into lyrics and vocals.

“Hicior waspk”, kinda weird song but very interesting to listen to even if it is difficult to understand … but you don’t always have to understand music, sometimes it is enough that it is just good!

And that also applies to the last song “Strata”, loud and sonorous as it should be for punk.

This EP is proof that it doesn’t always have to be in English to find the music good, but if you want, you can also find the lyrics in English on bandcamp. Confrontational and with a touch of aggressiveness, with a political or socially critical background and yet entertaining, that’s what the guys here present and as a fan of punk music I can this EP and everything the band has done so far … and hopefully still will do… .highly recommend.
