Dan Farrell Stories
Dan Farrell
“Stories”
Dan Farrell is a London based singer / songwriter with a great love for the music of The Beatles, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones and Genesis, to name just a few.
His music is melodic rock that gets you hooked very quickly.
The main focus is his guitar and he plays it left handed but with the strings strung for a right handed person, sounds crazy but it works very well as we can hear.
Dan played in the band Bandana and has so far released three solo albums and two EP’s, all produced in his own studio.
And now we can look forward to album number four, which will be released in June 2021 and which I was lucky enough to hear in advance.
In the new work “Stories” the name is Program… .Each song tells a story, something personal from the life of Dan.
The opener to the album, “Once Upon A Time” is a short introducing that gives an insight into the musician in the sense of a storyteller and the voice alone makes you more than curious about the rest.
“Back In Time”, a very tune strongly reminiscent of the Beatles, very melodic and fabulous sung, a real ear flatterer!
“No Point Fighting” has a very cool intro, the whole song reminds me of a musical and I can literally see the singer standing on stage in front of me. A piece full of hope and with a melody that you won’t soon forget.
Someone opens a bottle to enjoy a drink … that’s the beginning of “Here We Are”, a real feel-good song to dream about, it conjures up the feeling of lazy holidays, relaxing in the sun!
“Blue Clouds”, an instrumental and a captivating tune and proof that a great song doesn’t always need a voice.
“Let’s Do This”, positive and about the love of music and a reminder to enjoy life as long as possible and it looks forward to life returning to normal after the pandemic of 2020. Played so well and one of my favorites!
“This Is All We Need” is reminiscent of the style of americana music, a mix of country, folk and rock n roll and the song is definitely proof of how diverse Dan is in his music.
Uptempo and thrilling!
“Part Of Our Story”, The sound of thunder fades into the sound of birds chirping…and then Dan’s wonderful voice sets in, a bit melancholy but not depressing, a very successful mixture and of course brilliant in the interplay of the instruments.
On “Child In Your Eyes” you can hear a record being put on, a reminder from Dan of days of his childhood when records were still being listened to. And probably each of us remembers that time.
The song “Something About Her” is also about a personal story, the cocktail shaker at the beginning is practically dedicated to his wife who loves cocktails, and so the whole song is a homage to his wife, a wonderful love song and I like the melody.
“The Player”, last song and a great ending to this album, catchy and with an ingenious twist … starting slowly, overflowing into a firework of notes, slowly calming down again … just brilliantly played!
“Stories” is as varied as a good book with its many different stories. Something that you put aside but never really far away because you can always discover new things and because it’s just fun to listen to.
If I can say something negative then only that we have to wait until summer for the album!
One Song, “This Is All We Need” is released on BandCamp so you can have a listen to get an idea of what to expect!
