“Wailin’ for Walter – A Benefit Concert for Walter Trout”
to take place at UACCNJ in Whippany NJ, 5/28/14
WHIPPANY, NJ, May 1, 2014 – Legendary bluesman Walter Trout is presently
awaiting a liver transplant at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and nationwide
efforts are underway to raise funds to assist with his medical expenses. Splatter
Concerts, in cooperation with United Jersey Blues Network (UJBN), will present a
benefit show for Walter Trout at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of NJ
(UACCNJ) in Whippany NJ on the evening of May 28th, 2014 and will feature an all-star
lineup of national, regional and local blues artists.
Scheduled to appear at this very special evening are Debbie Davies, Popa Chubby,
Arthur Neilson, Carlos Colina & Straight Up, Son Lewis Band and the Midnight
Ramblers. In addition to the performances, there will be a 50/50 raffle and s silent
auction. Proceeds from all ticket sales, raffles and auctions go to Walter Trout and his
family to help defray his medical expenses.
A former New Jersey native, Trout relocated to LA where he worked as a sideman for
Joe Tex and John Lee Hooker. During the 1980’s he did stints as a guitarist in Canned
Heat and seminal blues band John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, ultimately establishing
himself as a solo artist in 1989. “Walter did an amazing show for us a few years ago,
and I have always enjoyed his playing”, says Fr. Daniel Staniskis, curator of Splatter
Concerts, ”so now we want to do something for him”. Splatter Concerts has been
presenting shows in the Morris County area since 2002.
The NY/NJ metro area blues community has a long history of helping those in need.
“From hurricane disaster relief to helping individuals with their medical expenses, we’ve
put on many benefit shows for many different beneficiaries throughout the years”, noted
Son Lewis, president of area blues society United Jersey Blues Network, “we are very
pleased to be able to help out a fellow performer”. Lewis will be appearing with his band
at the 5/28 benefit show.
