Cara Lippman is a native of Hopkinton. Ma, a Boston suburb, who was mentored by that cities “Regal Queen of the Blues” Shirley Lewis. Cara relocated to Nashville over a decade ago to hone her live performance skills. Quickly she became a pro blues jam host and eventually wound up entertaining at festivals and night clubs all over Metro Nashville and Middle Tennessee. She and her band were nominated for “Best Live Blues Band” four years in a row by the Nashville Industry Music Awards. She has since dropped her last name and performs as “Cara Being Blue”. In 2016 she released her debut EP “Full Throttle”. The Full Throttle video is testament to her ability to rock while still staying true to her roots. That same year she was honored by the Tennessee Rhythm and Blues Society for her contributions to the genre.
Vocalist Cara dedicates her first full length solo album to two noble friends who unfortunately lost their fight and succumbed to cancer. She wrote the title track “Grit” and thus named her album too. Her world class band includes Val Lupescu, lead and rhythm guitar; Eric Robert, organ; Jonathan Nixon, bass; Flip Winfield, drums; Miqui Gutierrez, sax; Varney Greene, trombone, Tim Gonzalez, harmonica; and background vocalist Mandy Vixen. Select friends sitting in include guitarists Dave Fields, Jack Pearson, and Will Gustofson; bassist David Abdo, and drummer Matt Doctor.
Included are ten songs written or co-written by Cara. Cara opens with the title track “Grit” written for her late friends Barbara and Trish. The foreboding “Crocodile Man” features guitarist Dave Fields. On “You Don’t Wanna” former Allman Brothers guitarist Jack Pearson guests. “Kind, Kinda Man” featuring Eric Roberts on piano and the horns, was written for her dad Arthur Lippman.
Keyboardist Larry Van Loon states “I absolutely love Cara! With a congenial back porch vibe, she commands her stage and sings the blues with sweet restraint, then gets groovin’ with a snarl, melodious phrasing and the pure joy of making music.”
Cara is an expressive vocalist with great intonation. Cara takes center stage on this impressive recording.
