The Atlanta Blues Society Gathering and Jam, Nov. 18
Last Sunday. many Atlanta Blues Society members and potential members gathered as we do monthly at various clubs all around Atlanta and the Metro area. This time, it was at Darwin’s Burgers and Blues in Sandy Springs.
Every meeting has a host band, which performs right after Society President George Klein says a few words. Since we did not have a lot to discuss, except the good news that the ABS won a Keeping the Blues Alive Award this year from The Blues Foundation in Memphis and that we will be having our holiday party December 2nd, we got to the music in short order, as we always do. This month’s host was the fabulous Lola and her band. Lola is an amazing artist, who performs regularly at Northside Tavern but also travels to other places in the States and in Europe. On Sunday, she led her band in a wonderful set, with songs including a stunning version of “Purple Rain” and the rousing “Moving On Up.”
Following Lola’s set and a short break to raffle off some CDs and a bottle of Cathead Vodka, it was time for the famous ABS jam! We could not stay for all of this one, but we heard enough to know it was off to a good start! Many ABS members are musicians, so it is always fun to hear and see who will turn up!
If you live in the Atlanta area and you want to show your support for the blues, and if you enjoy having a good time with other blues lovers, you should join the Atlanta Blues Society. Come to a gathering or check out the webpage (atlantabluessociety.org) for more info!
