Brandon Santini at Darwin’s in Sandy Springs GA May 19, 2017
Brandon Santini and his band played Darwin’s on Friday night, May 19. Many fans were anxious to see Santini, who has played here enough to be a big Atlanta favorite. They were also happy to see Timo Arthur, the lead guitarist, as he lived in Atlanta and was part of our musical community before moving to Memphis. The other band members were Tom “Slim” Lewis on bass, I believe, and Reid Muchow on drums.
With this noble support backing him, Santini launched things off with a great old song, “Blow, Wind, Blow.” igniting that incredible harmonica playing and also letting Arthur show off his spectacular skill. With the audience fully engaged, we barreled through a set full of clapping, singing and laughter as Santini bantered between and during songs. The songs were mostly fast ones, like “Evil Woman,” “I Wanna Boogie With You,” and “My Back scratcher.” He only slowed down for one song, “Leaving New York,” a heartfelt ballad from an early album. Everyone took a breath and then it was back to the bopping and swaying with that amazing harp Santini is famous for,. matched by Arthur’s fiery guitar solos worthy of any master guitarist you can think of. Bassist and drummer had their hands full keeping up with them, but they proved equal to the task!
It was a great, fun night with every good thing a show needs: Darwin’s delicious food and drink, Santini’s wit and musical skill, and his excellent band! Brandon Santini knows how to entertain and hold an audience. Go see him! you will have fun!
