A magical day with the Atlanta Blues Society Jan. 15
It was a beautiful day in Atlanta on Sunday, a surprising gift to us all after the ice and snow the week before. In one week, we went from that to this, 70 balmy degrees under clear skies!
We were all gathered, about 150 Atlanta Blues Society members and guests, at the home of former restaurant owners Tony and Carmen. At first the plan was to meet inside but with the weather change, everything moved to the huge yard, where they have a stage already set up. There was a buffet with wonderful food provided in the garage and all we had to do was eat, drin, socialize and listen to Atlanta-based legend Albert White and his band with special guests Edie Tigner, Eddie Sawyer and Little Joe Burton play and sing fabulous traditional blues.
After a tiny bit of talk about upcoming events, we finished off the evening with an extended blues jam. It was a blues-lover’s dream day, and this event alone was worth the small cost of membership in the Atlanta Blues Society.
Our meetings are not always like this. We usually meet inside, in a club, and food is not always provided. But there is always music and fun and fellowship. If you love live music, and you live within traveling distance of Arlanta or the Metro area, ou should join the society. If you don’t live close, check for a blues society near you. It;s a great way to support blues music and musicians while making friends and letting musoc pervade your soul.
