Dreamcatcher
Bungalo Records
Micki Free is a Grammy winner and Native American Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. This new recording is a five-song EP featuring a brilliant ensemble. The recording features Free’s incendiary guitar, velvet smooth vocals, and styles ranging from funk to Native American flute. The ensemble includes Benny Rietveld on bass and Cindy Blackman Santana on drums. Also included is keyboardist Mark “Muggie Do” Leach, who plays both the Hammond organ and piano. Guest vocalist Ray Green is added on the opening track, “When the Devil’s At Your Door.”. All songs are written, produced, composed, and arranged by Free, as he sings, “When the devil’s at your door, too late for heartache…close your eyes, dream all day…it’s too late when the devil’s at your door.”.
“My Sweet Honey” follows, with Rhona Smith on bass and backing vocalists Free, Dana Taylor, and Trish Bowden. The title track “Dreamcatcher” is an instrumental with Free playing the Native American Flute and Muggie Do on Piano, with the great rhythm section of bassist Rietveld and drummer Cindy Blackman Santana. On “Night Crawler,” Free chimes, “Last night I saw you creeping out on the dance floor…now I see you sinkin’, stepaside baby, bring it on home to me.”. “We Are One” features the lyric “brought together to heal the world, together with love, we are one.”. On the closer, the ensemble reprises a live version of Dreamcatcher.
Free’s most recent album “Turquoise Blue” features high-level guest artists Gary Clark, Jr., and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. Free has also recorded five flute music albums. Born mixed blood “Cherokee/Comanche Native American and Irish, Free has also used his platform to advocate for the Native American community and created the Native Music Rocks program, which gives Native American musicians performance opportunities, and also founded the first Native American record company, Native American Rocks Records”. Free makes his guitar scream out loud for all of mankind to follow.
