An In Depth Interview with Stoni Taylor
Stoni Taylor has been dubbed as being one of the MOST unique vocalist, singer-songwriter and performer to navigate the business. Having had his share of label run-ins, Stoni has opened for major artists and events, backing up spectacular artists vocally as well as toured with other super cool artists. It was only a matter of time before the dawn of the rooster returned.
Offering his own brand of soul-inspired rock with the progressive blues influence, Stoni Taylor is an elite performer who has mastered his craft. His voice drips androgyny as he wails lyrics birthed from the abyss of his own raw emotion. His songs tell stories of life and struggle and are spawned from the mystic wisdom of greats like Hendrix and Joplin – kindred spirits who also dwelled in the belly of blues-rock-soul.
Native of Atlanta, Stoni began his career under the apprenticeship of actor Bill Nunn. Excelling on stage, he soon found himself cast in the musical “West Side Story” and the unreleased life story of Marvin Gaye. Realizing his affinity for music, he went on to intern for a small record label; eventually networking his way into a production deal with Coastal Records. Later received an offer from Universal Records that he declined in the early stages in an effort to maintain his creative authenticity, and of course other reasons. It was after walking away from this deal and one other Indie deal that he realized the benefit of being an independent artist. Exploring his newfound freedom, in 2007 he formed Stratagem Music Media, LLC, which is now “The Vault Recordings, LLC” – a boutique independent label of sort of which he releases all of his recorded materials and all recorded materials of recording artist “Sean Waterman”.
