Bassist Brad Vickers apprenticed with Jimmy Rogers, Hubert Sumlin, and Pinetop Perkins. As the bass player for Little Mike and The Tornadoes he appears on 1988’s “Pinetop Perkins with Little Mike & The Tornadoes After Hours”, and on Little Mike’s 1990 follow-up “Heart Attack”. Sometime thereafter Vickers switched to guitar and partnered with Margery Peters and they released their debut album 2008’s “Le Blues Hot”.
The word “Vestoploitans” is defined to mean “household gods” and the band preserves the blues, folk and roots music we grew up listening to. Bassist Vickers plays on the 1997 Pinetop Perkins Grammy nominated discs “Born in the Delta” on Telarc Records, and “Ladies Man” on MCR Records. This recording was the culmination of a mega session resulting in both 2010’s “Brad Vickers and The Vestoplitans Stuck With The Blues” and 2011’s follow-up “Traveling Fool”.
“Peace in My Time” is the one new song on this fabulous re-issue of songs first recorded in 2010. On this new single, produced by guitarist Dave Gross, Margey Peters is featured on vocal with a lineup including Vickers on bass; Bill Rankin on drums, Arne England on piano, and the late Jim Davis on tenor sax. Davis takes a fabulous solo. The album is dedicated to the memory of Davis, as Peters sings “I won’t see Peace in My Time”.
It’s impossible to have too much music from Brad Vickers and The Vestapolitans, and they went onto record additional albums including “Great Day In The Morning”; “The Music Gets Us Thru”; “Twice As Nice” and “That’s What They Say”. We pray that someday we will have peace in our time.
