About Time
Tower High/Wide Tracks Music
This new album by Celso Salim & Darryl Carriere presents a soulful blend of Salim’s guitar and Carriere’s harmonica. Salim relocated from Brazil, where he established a solid solo career, to Los Angeles in 2014 becoming one of the busiest and most respected guitarists in Southern California.
Winner of the 2019 IBC’s Lee Oskar harmonica award, Carriere was recently featured at the 2nd Harp Fest alongside Mitch Kashmar and RJ Micho. Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, darryl started playing the harmonica at the tender age of twelve. He was initially influenced by his school friend Lester Butler of the band The Red Devils. Carriere played with The Soutones and also with guitarists Corey Stevens and Preston Smith. He is also known for playing with The Doors’ Robbie Krieger and with drummer Gary Mallaber who played with both Van Morrison and The Steve Miller Band.
Co-produced by Mike Hightower and Salim all of the 10 songs are by the writing team of Salim and Carriere except for one by Salim. The band is rounded out by Hightower on bass; and David Kida on drums and percussion. The inspired performances are rooted in blues with hints of rock, country and soul music.
Highlights include the opening track “BBQ” with the lyric “don’t rack me over the coals, don’t put me on your bbq” and “Sweet Thing”, “you’re lips are sweet, you call me your jellybean”. The funky “Please Stop”, please stop, cut it out, stop what you’re doin’ to me”; and the lowdown “In Your Arms”, “you can believe me I never fool around, in you’re arms is where I belong”.
This is the bands first recording since 2018. Salim and Carriere display great musical chemistry in these ten high energy performances.
