In 1987 Rick Vito was a member of Fleetwood Mac finally taking over for Lindsey Buckingham in 1991. Vito’s first solo album was 1992’s “King of Hearts” on Atlantic Records.In 2001 Vito won a Blues Music Award for writing the Song of the Year “It’s 2 A.M.” covered by Shemekia Copeland on her album “Wicked”. Vito was also part of the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, receiving a 2010 Grammy nomination in the “Best Traditional Blues” category for his work as artist and producer on the album “Blue Again”. Vito has nine previous albums and two DVD’s. Vito has worked with Bonnie Raitt, John Mayall, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, John Fogarty, Rita Coolidge, Maria Muldaur, Roy Orbison and others. Overall Vito appears on over 100 recordings.
Singing all vocals on this recording Vito plays all guitars, bass (except on one track), and percussion. The album opens with “Love Crazy Baby” as Vito sings “I’ve got a love crazy baby and she loves me and drives me mad”. Three drummers are used throughout the recording, Charles “Mojo” Johnson; Lynn Williams; and Rick Reed. Four tracks feature the Hammond B-3 and Jim Hoke on sax.
Other Highlights include the title track, “Little Sheba” with Steve Mariner on Harmonica, and “Bo in Paradise” with it’s Bo Diddley styled beat, “You Can’t Stop A Guitar From Playing The Blues”, and “Sliding Into Blue”. The only song not written by Vito is a cover of Sam Cooke’s “Just Another Day”.
Steve Miller calls Vito “my favorite Blues guitarist and vocalist…the real deal”. This is a highly recommended recording.
